California Approves Self-Driving Cars – California is developing rules for the testing of autonomous vehicles. These rules should take effect in January of 2015, which is right around the corner, and apply only to the vehicle manufacturer. With Nissan and other manufacturer’s promising self-driving cars by 2020, I’m glad they’ll have at least five years to work out the kinks.
Google Hires L’Oreal’s CMO – This week Google jacked L’Oreal’s CMO for a position in their global client and agency solutions division. Basically, he’s going to talk to companies and try to encourage them to increase their digital marketing efforts. Sounds like a killer job.
Google Fiber backs up Netflix – You know how sometimes Google does really awful things? Like hide keyword data or hit people with penalties for issues they were unaware of? Well, this isn’t one of those things! Google said “Hey, Netflix. Comcast and Verizon are huge jerks to make you pay so that you can properly stream your videos. We’re not gonna do that.” Good for you, Google. Now we ALL just need Google Fiber and we can stop worrying about this nonsense.
Microsoft wants to replace your laptop with the Surface Pro 3 – Another “Laptop Killer”. The Surface Pro 3 is Microsoft’s 12-inch screen, Windows 8-based tablet that they hope will soon replace laptops in the office. The idea here is great, but getting companies to give up their dinosaur technology and adopt something new has proven to be difficult.
Panda 4.0 – Google updated their algorithm with “Panda 4.0” and in the meantime, they’ve slammed eBay with an 80% search traffic loss. This latest update is more of a “Data refresh”, but it can clearly still have a huge impact.
